This summer, I had the pleasure of photographing a summer tasting for The Catered Affair at the Boston Public Library. The BPL has been one of my favorite weddings venues to photograph for more than 15 years, so it’s always fun to be back, especially when the space is filled with beautiful tablescapes, flowers, and lots of inspiration for upcoming weddings.
The evening was designed for 19 couples getting married at the Boston Public Library in 2027, along with their families. It was a chance for everyone to sample the food, explore menu options, and see different ideas for how their wedding reception could look.
There was so much to photograph! I spent time capturing the table designs, menus, floral arrangements, food, and all the little details that went into setting up the room. I love photographing events like this because there’s so much work that happens behind the scenes, and it’s fun to see how everything comes together.
The evening started with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, followed by a selection of dishes from The Catered Affair’s menu. Guests were able to try different options and get a feel for what they might want to serve at their own weddings. The evening wrapped up with cake and dessert, which is always a nice way to end a tasting!The design details were especially beautiful. The tables featured a variety of styles, giving couples ideas and inspiration for their own receptions. Althea Floral Design will be creating the flowers for these weddings, with CJC handling the lighting. It’s always interesting to see how flowers, lighting, and table design can completely change the feel of a room, even in a venue as beautiful as the Boston Public Library.
One of the things I love about photographing weddings at the BPL is that the space is so beautiful on its own, but there are still so many ways to make it feel personal. No two weddings look exactly alike, and seeing the different ideas couples can draw from an evening like this is part of the fun. The Catered Affair has been creating memorable events throughout New England for more than 45 years, and the attention to detail was evident throughout the tasting. From the food to the presentation, everything was thoughtfully done.
I always enjoy working with talented event teams and getting to photograph the details that make an event special. And having the opportunity to do that at one of Boston’s most iconic wedding venues makes it even better.
